In his October 11, 2011 Porta Fidei, an Apostolic letter beginning with the words the “door of faith” (Acts 14:27), Pope Benedict XVI declared a year dedicated to the study and celebration of our faith. This Year of Faith will begin on October 11, 2012. The date chosen commemorates the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council. The opening date also corresponds to the twentieth anniversary of the promulgation of Catechism of the Catholic Church on October 11, 1992. The Year of Faith concludes on November 2013, which is the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King. The Year of Faith is intended to contribute to “a renewed conversion to the Lord Jesus and to the rediscovery of faith, so that the members of the Church will be credible and joy-filled witnesses to the Risen Lord in the world today — capable of leading those many people who are seeking it to the “door of faith.” (Note, 9/10).
The Marian Library/International Marian Research Institute will participate actively in the renewal of our faith through study and celebration highlighting in particular the presence and role of Our Lady in and for our faith, its deeper understanding and courageous witness. |
