Marian Prayer Corner

What is “The Prayer Corner” that is on The Mary Page?  It is a “Marian Prayer Corner” where anyone may submit a prayer request to be posted on the website for others to intercede for these intentions.  There is even a group of people, including Marianists and other religious communities, who have formed a “Prayer Circle” of people committed to praying for these intentions.

But why bother with a prayer chain?  Since Jesus teaches us to “ask and it shall be given to you” (Mt. 7:7), it seems as though all we need to do is pray for what we want.  Why, then, are some of our prayer intentions not granted as we ask?  The Catechism of the Catholic Church 2735-2758 reminds us that "we do not know how to pray as we ought" (Rom. 8:26) and that we need to pray with filial trust, perseverance, and living a Christian life.  “Filial trust” means seeing oneself as a child of a loving Father God.  Devotion to Mary as our spiritual Mother can help us to develop this necessary attitude.  She exemplified this attitude at the wedding feast of Cana as she told the servers, “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn. 2:5).  She trusted that if the servers would carry out Jesus’ instruction, then the need for more wine would be resolved in whatever way would be best.  So what does Jesus tell us to do when praying?

In the context of giving the keys of the Kingdom to Peter, Jesus teaches the value of communal prayer in this Church:  “Again I say to you, that if two of you shall consent upon earth, concerning anything whatsoever they shall ask, it shall be done to them by my Father who is in heaven.  For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Mt. 18:19-20).  Inspired by these words, and prompted by many prayer requests, The Mary Page has created a Prayer Circle that is a chain of intercessors joining in prayer around the world.  As of September 19, there are 1, 201 members of the Prayer Circle who receive a monthly email of the prayer intentions posted on The Mary Page for the last thirty days.  The Prayer Circle continues to grow with more members each month.  Anyone who wishes to belong may simply click on “join our extended prayer circle.”

Recently the prayer circle list has been updated since some email addresses are no longer valid.  If you had joined the prayer circle in the past and did not receive the September email, please submit another request to join.  We truly appreciate all of the members of the Prayer Circle.  May God bless them all through the intercession of Mary, our Queen and our Mother!
