Bolivia, is a country near the center of South America. In western Bolivia, the snow-capped Andes Mountains surround a high, dry plateau. Tropical rain forests thrive in the northern part of the plain, and grasslands and swamps sprawl across much of the eastern border of Bolivia. American Indians were the first people to live in Bolivia. In the 1500's, Spain conquered the Indians and ruled until 1825, when Bolivia won its independence. Bolivians are mostly of Indian or mixed Spanish and Indian ancestry. Bolivia has three official languages-Spanish and the Indian languages of Aymara and Quechua.  About 95% of all Bolivians are baptized Roman Catholic.  Bolivia began printing its stamps in 1887, and the printing of stamps of Mary began in 1939.
