This is the home of the University of Dayton
Men's Club Volleyball team. Our club offers the volleyball players
of the University a fun and competitive release from campus
life. In the past few years, the club has gained national recognition,
finishing 9th, 5th, and 9th respectively at nationals. Our team
is an active member of the Midwest Intercollegiate Men's Volleyball
Association (MIVA), and we compete within one of its conferences,
the Great Midwest Men's Volleyball Conference (GMMVC).

:: march 4, 2006 :: GMMVC Championships ::
With the excellent showing in last week's Hoosier-Illini Classic under their belts, the Flyers next challenge was to defend their GMMVC crown from last year, but it was not meant to be. Missing several key players, the Flyers struggled all day, settling tied for third place in both league play and tournament play. Ohio Northern, a perennial D2 powerhouse, swept both league and tournament play, not losing a single game en route to the league and tournament championship. The Flyers look forward to a stronger showing with their full team at their next tournament, MIVA Championships, which will ultimately decide where they will be placed at Nationals in Salt Lake City, UT.
:: february 25-26, 2005 :: Hoosier-Illini Classic ::
After falling out of the national rankings, the Flyers felt they had something to prove and the Hoosier-Illini Classic was just the place to do it. Although they were paired up with some pretty stiff competition, the Flyers showed some real grit and won their pool, going undefeated on the day and in the process defeating the defending national champion Marquette Golden Eagles, ranked #6 in the country. On tournament day, the Flyers drew Missouri, whom they dispatched, and they Texas A&M, ranked #13 in the country and traditionally one of the strongest teams in the nation. In another hard fought battle, the Flyers won and reached the semi-finals of this prestigious tourney for the first time in the club's history. The Flyers faced Lakeland in the semis, a rivalry that has been extremely fierce for the past 4 years as both teams rose in a national prominence and made the jump from D2 to D1. This was yet another epic battle, as the #3 ranked Muskies knocked off the Flyers for a berth in the tourney championship. With expectations far and away exceeded, the Flyers took home a third place finish and were back on the national map.
:: february 5, 2006 :: At the All-OH Classic, the Flyers steamrolled their way through pool play and the first round of the tourney, matching them up against Cincinnati for the second time in so many weeks. This matchup proved to be much less exciting as the first, with the Flyers winning and putting them into the Finals against the host of the tourney ONU, whom they had lost to the weekend before. Even with the new acquisition of Adam Minch, an integral part of the team the past three years who had taken off the first semester, the Flyers fell in defeat, taking home second place.
:: january 27-28, 2006 :: Missing some of their key contributors, the Flyers managed to still go 4-2 at the first playdate of the year for their league, the GMMVC. The day was capped off by an improbable comeback in the Flyers final game of the day against Cincinnati. After barely losing the first game, they found themselves in a very large hole, down 23-16 in the second. The Flyers turned it on though, aided by some big errors on UC's side, and won the game 27-25. With their opposition reeling, Dayton took advantage and won the third game with ease, ending the day on a high note. The Flyers travel to ONU for the annual All-OH tourney next weekend.
:: january 18, 2006 ::
After the Flyers solid preseason showing, they earned a spot in the NIRSA Top 25 rankings for the third year in a row, dropping in at #17. They look forward to proving their ranking and moving up the charts this upcoming weekend at the first GMMVC playdate at Miami University.

:: november 12-13, 2005 :: MSU Back to the Hardwood Classic ::
The Flyers traveled to Michigan State this weekend to play in the Back to the Hardwood Classic, the biggest preseason tourney in the country. With a stacked field with some big names from around the country, the Flyers would have a tough road if they were going to repeat as champions of the tournament. The Flyers opponents proved no match in pool play, as they mowed down Iowa, Grand Valley State, and UIC handily. After a long wait, they played Wisonsin in a crossover match and won, moving them to 4-0 on the day and giving them a bye going into tournament play the next day. Sunday came and the Flyers drew Virgina Tech, who won their first round game in the morning. This was a grudge match of sorts for the Flyers because VT was the first club team to defeat them last year. In a hotly contested match, the outcome was unfortunately the same for the Flyers, as they fell in two games. The Flyers finished the tourney tied for 9th place.
:: november 5, 2005 :: The Flyers traveled to Ohio University to take on OU as well as Pittsburgh in a trimatch. They played well in both matches, handling OU in two games and losing in three tightly contested games against a veteran Pittsburgh team. The Flyers first major test of the year is this coming weekend, as they travel to Michigan State to play in the annual Back to the Hardwood tournament, the largest preseason club tourament in the country.
:: october 30, 2005 :: The Flyers fared well in their first tournament of the year at The Ohio State University. Drawing a favorable pool at the beginning of the day, they upset eventual runner-up Mixed Nutz by beating them one of two games in their first match. The next matches pitted them against inferior competition, and the Flyers went on to win easily, coming out second in their pool and making it to the Gold Bracket of the tournament. In the quarterfinals, they faced a team led by former Flyer Keith Haun. Unforced errors and a stong block from the other team proved a formidable match for the Flyers as they fell in two games. The Flyers look forward to playing in the Back to the Hardwood tournament in a few weeks, the biggest preseason club volleyball tourney in the nation, November 12-13.
